Difference between Magnification and Diopter:
"Magnification": is the level to which an object is magnified through a lens. It is usually indicated by a number followed by the letter "x". "1x" means twice the magnification of the original.
"Diopter": is an optical term referring to magnification power and represents "the radius of curvature" of the lens. Each diopter increases the magnification by 25% of the original. Consequently, 4 diopters correspond to 100% magnification of the original (1x). To determine the magnification with reference to the number of diopters in the lens, one must divide the total number of diopters by 4. For example, an 8-diopter lens will have a magnification power of 2 times (8:4 = 2x).
