Stake-less testing
Fluke 1625-2 is a ground tester capable of measuring ground loop resistances using only clamps. This method involves placing two clamps around the grounding rod, both connected to the tester. No ground stakes are required. A fixed, known voltage is induced through one clamp, while the current is measured using the second clamp. The tester then automatically determines the resistance of the grounding rod. This testing method works only if a grounding system for the building or structure under test already exists, which is the case in most situations. If only a single ground circuit is present, as in many residential structures, the clamp-only method will not provide an acceptable value, and the fall-of-potential method must be used instead.
With the clamp-only test, there is no need to disconnect the ground electrode, so the grounding system remains intact during testing. The days of wasting time placing and connecting ground stakes for every grounding rod in the system are over, resulting in significant time savings. Additionally, it is now possible to perform ground tests in locations where they were previously impractical, such as inside buildings, on transmission towers, or in any area without direct access to the ground.
